We Want You!
It's not easy for a city to land a professional sports team. The typical circumstances today involve a grassroots group of citizen, business, and government leaders banding together to attract a franchise, competing against other cities to demonstrate that they're worthy of a team.

That's just what's happening in cities like Seattle, Houston, and Philadelphia, all of which are competing for a new Major League Soccer team. It never happened in San Jose, however, because San Jose was chosen for a team when the league was created based on the city's history of supporting soccer. A coalition of community members never had to come together to win a team — until now.

San Jose, or some other city in the Bay Area, needs to work with MLS to build a new stadium for the team. New soccer stadiums have already been built in Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, and Columbus and are either under construction or on the drawing board in New Jersey, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Toronto. The sport's future is all about soccer-specific stadiums and we think a new stadium is a smart investment for MLS and local communities alike, particularly if the stadium is paired with community-use soccer fields like those seen in new complexes in Dallas and Denver.

Soccer Silicon Valley's goal is to provide a voice to the multitude of soccer fans in the Bay Area, to demonstrate to local governments that an investment in soccer is one that is supported by the community at large. If you're involved with soccer at any level, ask yourself this question: Does the sport benefit from having the Earthquakes here? If your answer is yes, please click here to sign up as a member of Soccer Silicon Valley.
